Kempton Attains Rank of Eagle Scout

Samuel Marquette Bond, 16, of Kempton, Pennsylvania was recently awarded Boy
Scouting's highest award. Sam, as he is known to his friends, received his Eagle
Scout badge at a court of honor ceremony held at New Bethel Union Church of
Kempton.
For his Eagle Scout
community service project, Bond erected a Pennsylvania granite monument at New
Bethel to honor military veterans of Albany Township in northern Berks County.
Bond also earned 27 merit badges and served as a patrol leader, historian,
chaplain aide, den chief and bugler in Troop 104 of Krumsville. Bond also earned
membership in the Order of the Arrow, the Lutheran God and Church award, and the
Historic Trails Award. He participated in many scout camping trips included high
adventure sojourns to Camp Cedarlands in the Adirondacks, New York and Florida
Sea Base in Key West.
Bond was a scholar at the
2006 Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Agricultural Sciences in the summer
of 2006 at Penn State University Park, State College.
Bond will be a senior at
Kutztown Area High School where he participates in band, FFA, and percussion
ensemble. He is also an active member of the Lutheran council at New Bethel
Church and the Albany Township Historical Society. A son of Jon and Kelly Bond,
and a brother of Noel, Sam will be attending PSU Conservation Leadership School
and the Pennsylvania Wildlife Leadership Program this summer. He plans to attend
Penn State University in 2008 to pursue a degree in forestry.
